Two Pakistani Teachers Finalized for Global Teachers Prize 2016

    Global Teachers Prize is a struggle Varkey Foundation to give the teachers their due respect and status in society. This prize is given to those outstanding teachers who have done exceptional and executed their job with devotion. The prize was first given in 2014. Amount of the prize is about 1 million Dollars(10 Crore PKR).  The prize is funded by Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai. The foundation receives 50,00 nominations a year from 127 countries. The foundation says
The Prize underlines the importance of the teaching profession and symbolizes the fact that teachers throughout the world deserve to be recognized and celebrated.
The foundation finalized the awardees for 2016 recently. It is moment of pride for us Pakistani that two Pakistani female teachers have been finalized in Top 50 for the prize. A short biography is given below.
1. Aqeela Asif

   Aqeela Asif born in Kabul in male dominated society. She from early struggled to get educated. In 1992 she was forced to move to Pakistan due to instability and Taliban rule in Afghanistan. She took refuge in Kot Chandana Camp in Pakistan. She stared a tent school. She tried to change the mindset and convinced parents to educate their daughters. She at first stared teaching personal hygiene, religion and home management skills. She then moved towards science subjects. Today she runs nine schools in the camp. Her efforts have been recognized and she has been awarded Nansen Refugee Award by UNHCR.

2. Humaira Bachal

                        Humaira Bachal is a women education activist in Pakistan. She was 1st female among her family who struggled and managed to get herself educated. Her cousin died because her mother illiterate and could not read the expiry date of medicine. This incident inspired her and she took courage and initiative to educate the poor and illiterate girls. She now run a successful school chain in outskirts of Karachi named as Dream Model Street School. Her services were recognized and she was runner-up at the Education For All Category of the World Summit Youth Award in 2011.
