No Smoke and No Drug City, Rashidabad The City of Hope

   Are you really supersized seeing the title "No Smoke and No Drug City, Rashidabad The City of Hope". You must be. Pakistan is among those countries which have highest drug addict rate throughout the World. Millions are addicted, thousands addicts increasing each year.In such circumstances an imitative has been taken to make a No Smoke & No Drug City.

Location

     A newly constructed and well maintained Rashidabad city is located in interior rural Sindh, 35 KM from Hyderabad having an area of about 100 acres. Foundation Stone laid on 13 Dec 1998 by the  former Governor of Sindh, General Mohiuddin Haider. This city is although small but a n examplary due to its education services, peaceful environment, health and social activities.

   This project was initiated by father of a martyred pilot Flight Lieutenant Rashid Ahmed Khan. Flight Lieutenant Rashid Ahmed Khan was martyred in a plane crash while serving Pakistan Air Force(PAF) on 13th Dec, 1997. His aircraft caught fire in densely populated area. To save thousands of lives he struggled to move away from populated are. In struggle of this he sacrificed his life and got Shadaat.

Rashid Memorial  Welfare Organization


   Rashidabad, a project of Rashid Memorial  Welfare Organization(RMWO) is an initiative to provide rural population of interior Sindh facilities of sustainable and good society. In this respect Rashid’s father collected about RS 15 million from board of trustees. Land of around 110 acres was acquired at 35 KM from Hyderabad towards MirpurKhas. As more funding and donations came the project was continued. Houses were built and educational and health facilities were provided. A brief view is below.

   Rashidabad city has three large educational institutions. They are: SARGODHIAN SPIRIT TRUST (SST) PUBLIC SCHOOL, YAQUB KHAWAJA (YK) ACADEMY, THE CITIZENS' FOUNDATION SCHOOL. Sargodhian Spirit Trust Public School is a state of the art school providing quality education from all over Pakistan. A hostel of 400 boys is also maintained by school . 25% students (orphans & destitute) are on full scholarship. Other two school are also state of art and hundreds of students are studying in student friendly environment. The trust runs informal education institutes for Adult Literacy program named Suffah Literacy. Vocational Training institute is run for women of rural area to make them independent.

Health Services at Rashidabad City

 The city runs 200 bed The Bilquis Musaf Medical Complex with state of art facilities to commonest of citizen. All facilities are provided including pathological laboratory, X-Ray imaging, an operation theater and general OPD and others. Fatimid Foundation is providing free treatment to Thalassemia and Hematological to local population. The Health Foundation is setting up a Hepatitis B & C screening and treatment center at the hospital. The 50-bed Layton-Rehmatullah Benevolent Trust (LRBT) Free Eye Hospital was constructed by the RMWO. On average, over 300 patients receive treatments daily, including 40 eye operations. Intra-Ocular Lenses (IOLs) are fitted free. Mobile Dispensaries provide free medical facility to local population.

  The Azmi Homes built at cost of 60 million provides shelter to 288 orphans and 70 senior citizens. The Masjid-e-Shehbazi provides opportunity for 4000 faithfuls to offer prayers at a time. Batool Shah Micro finance Project provides vocational education and business equipment at discount rates in easy installments. Azmi Water Filtration Plant supply 5000 gallons of drinking water everyday. Rashida city has three football pitches, three hockey fields, one cricket ground, eight basketball courts, eight volleyball courts, four tennis courts and four badminton courts and a swimming pool, and recently, a squash complex has been commissioned.

 Rashid’s father is planning to establish such ideal cities in other provinces soon these projects will be started.
